The 15th Beijing International Wushu Invitational Tournament Was Held in Beijing, with Wushu Practitioners from around the World Gathering at Beijing Garden Expo Park

With the wushu spirit spreading far and wide across the world, a grand gathering was adding radiance to China’s capital city, Beijing. In July, the 15th The Beijing International Wushu Invitational Tournament took place at the Beijing Garden Expo Park, with the venue alive with roaring punches and swift sword moves. Under the theme “Wushu Spirit Echoing in Beijing, a Grand Gathering in China,” this event brought together over 1,500 wushu practitioners from over 20 countries and regions across Asia, Europe, and the Americas at the banks of the Yongding River. Participants engaged in friendly competition and mutual learning and forged friendships through wushu, demonstrating the unique charm of Chinese wushu in every move, while conveying the spirit of sports that advocates a martial culture and physical fitness.

The event consisted of two main divisions: domestic and international, and organized participants into seven groups by age, spanning from children aged 6 and under to senior practitioners up to 70 years old. It featured ten event categories (e.g., Beginner, Competition, Optional, and Traditional), comprising a total of 119 sub-events. The venue catered to both professional wushu athletes for intense matchups and wushu enthusiasts for exchange and performance. The participants, ranging from young children to spirited seniors, delivered spectacular performances, including spirited junior compulsory routines, fluid and agile Changquan, smooth Tai Chi moves, graceful swordplay, powerful cudgel play, and resounding armed combats, drawing waves of cheers from the audience. They fully demonstrated their passion and expertise, embodying the unique charm of Chinese wushu that transcends age and national borders.

Furthermore, the event featured group performances that were delivered by teams of 8 to 16 members in a uniform, coordinated manner, accompanied by background music. They fully showcased the spirit of teamwork and the traditional ethos of wushu, further expanding the boundaries of wushu expression.

Chinese wushu is both a means of physical fitness and a vibrant carrier for passing down Chinese culture through thousands of years. On November 5, 2025, the UNESCO resolved to designate March 21 as International Taijiquan Day — the first UN international day for a martial art. Today, Chinese wushu is reaching out to the world with a more open attitude. Through the hosting of various international competitions, China has built exchange and mutual learning platforms for wushu enthusiasts around the world.

First held in 1994, the Beijing International Wushu Invitational Tournament has been a signature international wushu event for more than 30 years and grown in scale year by year. Guided by the mission of “Carrying forward the legacy of Chinese wushu and fostering exchanges between China and other countries,” and adhering to the philosophy of “Sports + Culture + Ecology,” it has evolved from a local primary-level sports event into a grand wushu gathering that is professional, public, and international. Today, it even serves as Beijing’s hallmark to connect with the world through people-to-people exchanges, better tell China’s stories, and present the fine traditional Chinese culture.

Currently, by leveraging the Beijing International Wushu Invitational Tournament and other signature events, as well as themed activities, the Fengtai District of Beijing is launching inclusive outreach programs like “Bring Wushu Home,” with the aim of integrating diversified models of business and fostering the in-depth integrated development of agriculture, culture, commerce, tourism, sports, and exhibitions. On the journey toward building China into a country strong in sports and culture and advancing the Healthy China Initiative, Chinese wushu is expected to write a new and glorious chapter on the grand stage of the era.
