Company pledges to match first $10,000 in donations to the Coalition to Cure Calpain 3, honoring a family member living with the rare genetic disorder
AUSTIN, TX, UNITED STATES, September 4, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — SALT Plumbing, Air & Electric has launched its annual September fundraising campaign in recognition of Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Month, directing donations to the Coalition to Cure Calpain 3 (C3), a research organization focused on curing calpainopathy. The campaign, themed “One Month. One Mission. Endless Hope,” is held in honor of Brooklyn, a member of the SALT family living with LGMD2A/R1, and marks the company’s latest annual effort to support the cause.
The company set a fundraising goal of $20,000 for this year’s campaign and pledged to match the first $10,000 donated by supporters. Within the campaign’s first three days, contributions reached $8,658 toward that goal, according to figures shared by the SALT team. The matching pledge is intended to double the impact of early donations and help the campaign reach its goal before the end of September.
Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy is a group of rare genetic disorders that cause progressive weakness in the muscles closest to the body, including the hips and shoulders. LGMD2A/R1, also known as calpainopathy, results from mutations affecting the calpain-3 protein and can significantly limit mobility over time. Symptoms often emerge gradually and can be difficult to diagnose in early stages. There is currently no cure, and the Coalition to Cure Calpain 3 funds research aimed at developing treatments for the condition.
Melina Garza, Chief Financial Officer of SALT Service Co., said the cause carries personal significance for the company’s ownership family and has grown into a shared commitment across the organization over the years.
“This disease has touched our family directly, and over the years it has become something our entire team has rallied around,” Garza said. “Sharing Brooklyn’s story and supporting research through the Coalition to Cure Calpain 3 is one way we can help move that work forward.”
As part of this year’s campaign, SALT held a company breakfast for its workforce that included a screening of an awareness video about Brooklyn’s experience with the condition. Employees who attended received support wristbands tied to the fundraiser, and the company plans to continue sharing updates and photos from the event throughout September as the campaign progresses.
